The adults are known to feed from a variety of flowers such as Leadwort, Phlox, Hibiscus and Lantana.
The origin of the genus Phoebis is currently unknown. The specie sennae is Arabic and refers to a genus of plants in the “pea” family.
The Cloudless Sulphur can be found in a variety of habitats such as roadsides, parks, residential areas, gardens and fields.
Males patrol a range in search of receptive females. After mating the females lay their eggs individually on the host plants. The larvae feed on the host plant until they form their pupa.
In the southern part of their range adults can be found year round. In the northern part of their range multiple generations of adults are found June through October.
Cloudless Sulphurs cannot survive the cold winter temperatures found in the northern part of their range. So each fall the adults have to migrate south to a warmer winter temperature and then new individuals migrate north in the spring.
